BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Becomes First Health Plan to Purchase TriZetto's Real-Time, Point-of-Service Solution

Health Plan, Providers, Members to Benefit from Real-Time Financial Settlement

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – December 20, 2006 – The TriZetto Group Inc. (NASDAQ: TZIX) announced that BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has become the first health plan to purchase the company's real-time patient liability and point-of-service claims adjudication solution, Provider POS Direct(TM). The solution enables healthcare providers to determine and share with patients the exact cost of a procedure prior to the delivery of care. It also provides the option of real-time financial settlement among the patient, provider and health plan before the patient leaves the provider's office, which can increase satisfaction and reduced administrative expense. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee serves 2.3 million members and is the largest insurer in the state. The health plan expects to implement Provider POS Direct by the end of the year to a very limited pilot group of providers.

"BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee understands that healthcare is shifting to put consumers at the center of care, and we're committed to a technology strategy that enables us to better address the needs of our members, providers and employer groups given this emerging model," said Chris Levan, CIO for BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. "Provider POS Direct is one more innovative way we can help our providers connect patients to information to help them make smart choices, while at the same time connect these clinicians to information that can make the system more efficient and effective."

Fully integrated with the Facets® administrative system that BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has used since 1996, Provider POS Direct can help provide price transparency for patients and providers via real-time access to medical benefit and procedure information in order to determine covered benefits and the exact provider reimbursement due from both the member and health plan. Providers can use the solution either in advance of treatment, at the time of scheduling, or after the patient has received care, when the actual claim is available for processing. Adjudicating the claim in real-time allows the patient to leave the office without worrying about any additional paperwork, and eliminates the need for the provider to submit paper bills to the health plan or member.

Providers can use Provider POS Direct via a portal on the health plan's Website to access the health plan's administrative system, determine exactly what amount the patient will owe, and then make arrangements to collect the payment. For health plans and providers who prefer direct system connectivity, the solution architecture has been designed to support system-to-system transaction processing. Provider POS Direct is built on an advanced service oriented architecture (SOA), making it easy for customers to integrate the solution into complex IT environments.

Unlike other vendors whose capabilities rely on replicated data and provide only approximations of costs, TriZetto's Provider POS Direct is the first commercially available solution that provides real-time access to the exact benefit and payment information in the health-plan administrative system that ultimately pays the claims. This real-time access allows the delivery of accurate - not estimated - patient and health plan costs, as well as final payment at the point of care.

Provider POS Direct, which is available to TriZetto's payer customers representing over 100 million insured individuals, provides a common provider interface for real-time access to benefit and payment information, constituting the first significant multi-payer option in the market. Ultimately, when used in conjunction with TriZetto's advanced care management and consumer-directed healthcare fund management products, Provider POS Direct provides a patent-pending capability for the real-time integration of benefits, care, and funds. This capability would expand the benefit and payment information to include access to the patient's personal health record, relevant health-plan care management protocols, and integrated payment options for patients with tax-advantaged savings accounts - without cumbersome swipe-card technology or reliance upon specific financial institutions.

According to Dan Spirek, chief solutions officer for TriZetto, health plans must transform the way they do business in order to satisfy the needs of consumers and other constituents in the new world of retail healthcare. Providing accurate real-time information at the point of care provides tremendous value to both members and providers. Settling the patient's financial responsibility in real time provides cost transparency and increased satisfaction to members and improved cash flow for providers, while significantly reducing administrative costs for providers and health plans alike.

"TriZetto provides our customers with the complete set of tools and information they need to compete successfully in the retail healthcare market," said Spirek. "TriZetto's Provider POS Direct can be a differentiator for these health plans, who can improve the member experience, help providers manage growing receivables, and benefit from additional administrative savings, while ultimately delivering higher value to those paying for health benefits."
